Two tests and one quiz tmr. I gotta speed up my work. Bye for now.
March 30, 2005
Tennis tryout ended today, well, at least for varsity. Below is the list of initials of the varsity candidates this year and also, the jv candidates.
WKWMDHWBPWONJHSH HWPJEYWRBCTMCWEB
Notice my initials? Ya, I'm only in 3rd place jv. It's so depressing.
始終無緣為本校v.tennis出一分力..真遺憾.. 算了..過分追求一種榮譽是無意義的.
做人豁達一點也好.
March 29, 2005
Besides coping with my jetlag today, I (or we) also had our first varsity tennis tryout after break, outdoors. Oh well it was terrible. First, the weather was chilly, and the wind was blowing so hard that balls flew everywhere. These factors contributed to my horrific lost to Mr. Wyman. Sigh.. What a bad start to this spring semester.
March 28, 2005
So, I'm now back to my other world. How was the flight? It was fine.. I had to deal with this old lady who wore sunglasses in the cabin. Anyway, I'm extremely tired.. Bye for now..
March 27, 2005 Bye
Goodbye. It's hard to say goodbye isn't it? I mentioned the same thing when I left in january.. Still, goodbye.
Today..my last day.. Woke up at 8 and had an early breakfast in tst, then played tennis at 9. It was fun, real fun. Well, perhaps it wasn't. But when you know that something's gonna be missed, you'll feel grateful for everything. I'm grateful..to Kevin for meeting me in LP and having a cup of coffee this afternoon.. Strange, isn't it? We seemed to be so close, yet so far away. I..feel like I'm living in two worlds.
I hate myself. I wish I were a better person.
Can't write anymore. Bye. Goodbye..
March 26, 2005
I'd say today is the best day so far during my short stay. Woke up at 9.30 and relaxed for an hour before going out. We had brunch at a new sushi restaurant, and the food was extremely good.
After brunch, my dad and I went to ifc for the movie Hitch while my mum and bro watched the japanese cartoon one.. Hitch was a good movie, well, a funny one. Since we had to wait for an hour for the other two to finish their movie, dad and I went up to the podium and practiced being, well, solitary. Also had some snacks in starbucks before leaving ifc.
Afterwards, we had dinner with the family of my dad's friend in a French 私房菜 place in central. Food was again, extremely good, especially my 'warm chocolate cake'. What a perfect dish to end the day with.. Sigh.. Tmr's my last day in HK.. Will it be as splendid as today? I really hope so..
Oh, btw, I'm thinking of getting this mouse. What do you think?

Played tennis at PC in the morning and had lunch in Langham Place with Kevin Thomas and Martin. Well, we ate at a thai restaurant, and the food was quite good. We stayed there for almost two hours.. Sad enough, the only pix taken was when Kevin tested the magnifying glass mode..
After lunch, which was already 4, they all left for lessons and I wandered in mk computer center for a while. Did I buy anything? Yeah, a static brush to clean off the dust on my keyboard. Works quite well. Anyway, at 6, I suddenly remembered that I need some new tennis shorts, and my dad also said he needed a new pair of shoes. So the two of us went (back) to mk to buy our things.. Isn't it nice to revisit a place you've just visited in the day?
March 24, 2005
During my trips to various lessons today, I listened to Joey's new cd. She sounds well as she always does, and I'm glad that she's exploring more kinds of songs (well, children's songs..) instead of blasting k songs all the time.
To be honest, I am sensing a slight regret in coming back to hk now. I mean, sure I'd love to come back. But just for four days? What could I do? Besides money, I've spent much time in this break traveling on buses, boats, and planes. Anyway, now that I'm back, I better make good use of my time.. Hmm..is it wise to spent a whole afternoon with friends? I'll answer this tmr.
March 23, 2005 Home again
After waiting at Paris CDG for 2 hrs, I finally boarded on my flight to HK yesterday. The 12-hr flight was not pleasant at all. First, I had to cope with this French man who apparently smelled like trash and constantly requested me to translate stuff for him. Then, my stomache was rumbling because of all the crazy turbulencies. Anyway, I survived it and arrived in HK at 8 in the morning.
When I finally got home after a long day, I realized that there's a new cradle on my desk. Seemingly, it's a dock station for vaio pocket, and sure it is. My dad actually got one without acknowledging me (not that he has to..but..). Oh well, it's a fascinating device..though the G-sense doesn't operate as well as the clickwheel on ipods.
March 21, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Last Day" Last Day
Finally, it's the last day of our trip. Given a whole day to spend (or waste), I woke up at 9, had breakfast at group A's monastery (which was quite good), and simply walked around. First, I walked to the Rialto Bridge and 'window' shopped in the free market. Then, I went to San Macro Square, got a few cute dolls, bought a gelato, and sat there for almost an hour.
Afterwards, I walked back to the shoreline near my monastery and looked for a place for lunch. It was already 2:30 by then. I ended up walking into a really decent restaurant and had a 'burusa' spaghetti. Oh well it was tasty. Anyway, after lunch, I sat down (again) at the shoreline and had a cup of hot chocolate. Eventually I got tired of it and went back to my room and napped for about an hour.
Around 7, our group met at the Accademia Bridge and headed to a restaurant for a farewell dinner. Unfortunately, everyone complained about their dishes. My 'curry' chicken was actually okay though. Anyhow, we thanked Massimo for being a great tour director in these 10 days. Yeah Max1!
For tmr, we'll meet at the bridge at 4:45am and ferry to VCE airport.. Still haven't finished packing yet. Kinda excited that I'm finally heading back to HK. See ya, Italy! Until next time!
March 20, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Confusing Canals" Confusing Canals
Second day at Venice. Had a sleep-in today. Woke up around 9, dressed up, and bought a hot chocolate and a croissant for breakfast. Met our tourguide at 10, and visited the Doge's and the famous Rialto Bridges, the Basilica of San Macro and of course, the San Macro Square. For some reason, San Macro Square looked completely different from what I had expected. Oh well..this always happens, right?
For lunch, I joined Matt, John, Tommy and Justin at a pizzeria and I had a 11 euro pizza. It was quite good (it better be). Then we walked in some free markets and had gelato before heading back to our monasteries (we were in different ones). Apparently it was a tough job to find our way back, since all the alleys looked the same and so did the canals. Eventually I got back, rested, and dressed for our Palm Sunday Mass guest-performance at the Basilica of San Macro (!). It was a great mass, but during the performance my stomache hurted so much and I was ready to vomit at anytime. Thank God that I didn't.
After the mass, we had dinner in a trattoria close to my monastery. The food was great. We were fill to our throats with quality food. Headed back to the monastery and, well, showered and now ready to go to bed. Tmr's a free day. No idea as to where I'll be going. Might as well just walk around..with my map, this time.
March 19, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Padova, and Venice" Padova, and Venice
Woke up at 7:15, packed up, and had breakfast before an early departure for Florence. During the drive, I felt kinda sick but fortunately we were able to stop for a break due to some unexpected traffic jam. We then continued the drive, arrived at Padova and visited the Scrovegni Chapel. It was okay..just not very intriguing. Anyway, due to the traffic jam, our lunch hour was changed to half an hour. I got myself a small sandwich and called home in a phone booth. Afterwards, we continued our drive to Venice.
When we finally arrived, we got off our bus, waved our goodbyes to Mario, and walked to a dock nearby. Thereby, we got onto private water taxis to the monasteries. It was quite cool indeed. Anyway, for the next three nights, I will be rooming with Justin, in a room that looks more like a hotel's than a monastery's. Tmr shall be an easy day, with our last concert at night. Goodbye for now.
March 18, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Florence" Florence
After a good fifteen minute breakfast this morning, we met our guides again and visited some buildings owned by the Medici family. We then walked to the Duomo of Florence (the famous one), and toured inside it. Unfortunately, we (or I) did not get to the top level of the dome, because it's currently under construction and also that I'm a acrophobie..
Anyway, after visiting the Duomo, we walked back to the old church near our monastary and strolled inside. Then, we were free! Free till 7:30! Six hours of free time! Well, having no plans at all, I led Paul (who was quite sick) across half the city to find a restaurant.. He was just mad. Oh well, we finally decided on which one after much argument. Lunch was actually pretty good. I had a slice of pizza and some pasta. After lunch, Paul left and I strolled in the city alone. Given so much time, I even walked to some inner streets of Florence where I was almost lost.. Afterall I found my way and headed back to the monastery at 5ish. At 7:30, we performed to the nuns on the stairs. Why? Partly to apologize for disturbing them and other inhabitants in the monastary around 2 last night. Oh well, I was of course, not one of the noisy people, and I honestly did not hear anything while I was sleeping (apparently the nuns heard breaking glasses). Perhaps they have better ears than I do. Anyway, early transfer to Venice tmr. Better sleep early and tight. Good nite.
March 17, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "David" David
I woke up this morning with the feeling that I could return to sleep for a few hours until Justin said, "It's 8:40". I jumped out of bed, got dressed, and rushed for breakfast. Unfortunately, while I was still stirring my hot chocolate, I'm forced to leave. Sigh.. Anyway, in the morning we visited the Old Bridge and a few galleries including the Accademia Gallery, which contained the famous sculpture David by Michelangelo. It was just..HUGE. Also, it's interesting to see that such powerful man shows fear too (in the dawn of war in this case).
In the afternoon, we, surprisingly, had three hours of free time. Paul and I simply wandered around in Florence. I bought a phone card (finally) and immediately called home. Apparently, I haven't called home for more than a week. Anyway, Paul found a Museum of Math and Science, and we enjoyed the museum for about an hour. Afterwards, I saw some filming places of Triumph in the Skies. Have a look.
Around 6, we had our fourth concert. It was quite good indeed to have a concert in the city instead of the suburbs (where the audiences are usually old fellows). We had dinner at 9:30 in a local trattoria, and the food was superb. After dinner we trotted back to the monastery since its door close by 11. Luckly enough, they waited for us to get back. Nice nuns.
March 16, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Serendipity" Serendipty
Woke up at eight, got everything ready, bought a croissant and joined the group for an early departure for Florence. En route, we visited the famous town of Siena. There, we toured around and had some shopping time.
After lunch, we continued our drive and visited San Gimignano and stroll through the town. During my freetime, I accidentally passed by the DaVinci Museum, and I, of course, paid a visit there and saw some remade works of his. In addition, I hiked up to the highest point of the town and took some amazing pictures.
When we finally arrived at Florence, it was already 7:30pm. We quickly walked to our monastery and had dinner there. Around nine, we promenaded in the town and had ice cream. That's about it for today.. Oh btw, I'm rooming with Paul and Justin this time..in a room for four though, which is quite satisfying indeed.
March 15, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Bridge" Bridge
After breakfast today, we departed for Spoleto and had a walking tour there. Amazing church and shops there. Visited the breaktaking Roman Bridge and took some pictures. Our group actually walked to the middle of the huge bridge and did a 'barbaric yelp'. It was terrific.
Since we were in a rush, lunch was only for half an hour. I got myself two sandwiches in a cafe. After lunch, I came across a shop named Desir and bought another souvenir for my bro.. Then, we traveled to Assisi, visited the Basilica of San Franchesco, had an early dinner (quite good..), and performed in a local church. This church was even tinier than the last one, and less audience came too. Please, better churches and more audiences next time!
March 14, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Monday" Monday
It turns out to be a good Monday. On my way to breakfast, I witnessed the howling wolves they were talking about - apparently we were warned about the wolves stationed in the garden when the nun's are at rest.. Oh well, I got over them. After breakfast we had a walking tour in Bevagna for about two hours. My legs were terribly sore then. For lunch, Paul and I went to the restaurant next to our lodging. Well, I ordered a tradional dish this time - spaghetti with tomato sauce. It was certainly good, but I'd still prefer something different. Anyway, in the afternoon, we visited Spello (village among a hill, therefore with very slanted streets), and took some amazing sunset pictures.
After dinner we had our second concert in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The church was less impressive than the first one.. And less audience came too.. Hope that our next performance will be more crowded and..you get the idea. I'm sleepy..good night and bye for now..yawn..
March 13, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "Turmoil" Turmoil
Woke up at eight, waited fifteen minutes to access our constantly-occupied bathroom, dressed, packed my luggage, and went down for breakfast. Immediately after, we headed to our comfy coach and left Italy for Bevagna. En route the three hour drive, we visited the Chapel of San Brizio at Orvieto. What's so special about the chapel? It is a massive chapel but doesn't look like one because of the alternating black & white stones used to construct it.
Had lunch with Paul at a restaurant somewhere close to the chapel. I was ordering a hamburger while the lady, who doesn't speak much english, pointed to something else more expensive. Well, I disregarded her and order my choice. Then, it came. It came with a piece of grilled meat, a leaf of lettuce, and..oh that's it. There wasn't even tomatoes or bread with it. Oh well.. Perhaps I should try to comprehend what others say, afterall. Also bought a souvenir for my bro.
When we finally arrived at our monastery in Bevagna, Fifer attempted to give out our room keys. It was a total chaos. Turmoil. Ah..whatever. Had dinner in the monastery's restaurant, and it was actually quite good. During dinner, I noticed something. People eat bread with no etiquette at all - they just take a slice and stuff it into their mouths. Don't they know that they're supposed to tear a small piece and eat it slowly? Sigh. Americans. "Americans, you are on the wrong way!" Aren't they just lovable?
After dinner Justin and I wandered in the streets. The city was deserted. In half boredom and half frustration, I returned to my room, and now, I'm typing this entry. It's been a long day. Perhaps I should get some sleep. Or should I? We'll see..
March 9-12, 2005 Italy Trip Entry - "A Bad Start" A Bad Start
Rewinding time to 11:00am Wednesday (March 9th)..
I was done with classes. I dashed quickly from my history classroom to my room to finish packing - something I've been desperately doing for hours in the previous night. Well, after zipping my luggage (finally..), I realized that my leather shoes weren't in. I quickly stuffed them in, signed out with Farrar, and left. En route to airport, for some reason, I realized that I left my tie. My TIE! In case you don't know, we all wear "the collegium tie", which is just a tie with taft logos embodied on it. Frankly, it made me quite nervous and paranoid given the grumpy nature of Fifer's. I struggled to tell him, until when he asked for my passport (!?) on the plane. Fortunately, he was cool with it. "I have a few entras," he snorted. Anyway, case was closed for this.
Plane ride from JFK to Paris CDG was fine. Food on AirFrance wasn't as good as expected.. At this moment I still think Cathay offers the best food for econ class. Anyway, at CDG, there was a strike in the airtower and everything was basically out-of-order. Our tranfer flight to Rome was delayed for 3 hrs. During that time, I spent my first few euros for a croissant. It was okay..just okay.
PICTURES
When we finally arrived at Rome, another hapless event happened - 16 ppl's luggages were missing - and of course, including mine. We queued in the baggage inquiry couter for more than 1/2 an hour, since many others were missing theirs too. The lady promised to send our luggages over. And, without my luggage, we left the airport for our lodging.
Our lodging is fine. I'm rooming with four ppl - Paul, Jason, Dino and Justin. Save for the dirtiness they make in the bathroom, my rooming situation is fine. On the same night, we visited the Pantheon, had dinner in our lodging's cafeteria, and walked around the city. Tasted the 'famous home-made' ilgelato (ice cream). Those ice cream shops must be really profitable, considering the amount of tourists in the area.
On the 11th (yesterday), we visited the Coliseum and the Roman Forum in the morning. For lunch, Justin and I headed to an unknown restaurant hiding among the remote streets. The food was actually quite good, though my ice coffee was unbelievably bitter, and expensive. I guess I'll never order drinks in restaurants here anymore.. In the afternoon, we visited the Galleria Borghese, and had dinner at a local restaurant a few blocks from our lodging. Food was again, superb. We even had a sip of red wine.
As for today, we traveled to the Vatican City! Visits there included the St. Peter's Square (which is the entrace to the 'city', or 'country'), St. Peter's Basilica, and private tours at the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. Saw the works of Michelangelo and Raffaello. When we returned to our lodging then, my luggage arrived! At the last moment I got my collegium garb back. After an early dinner, we headed to the Church of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola for our fist concert. How was it? They say we were amazing, and for sure we were, but I was too stressed and tired after a long day and a 2-hr concert. Well, I'm sure that the local Italians enjoyed it. That's the most important thing, right? After the concert, we visited the famous, amorous fountain - the Trevi Fountain. Sad that we went there at night, although the lights did look nice. Anyway, that's it for now. Good nite.
March 8, 2005 1Varsity Tryouts Day 3
Tmr is the day. Can't wait. Still have to pack, and study french + physics. Leaving around noon tmr. And did I mention I can't wait?
Last tryout session before spring break. Played some (bad) rallies with Oat and had 3-min tiebreak match (me + Sammr vs Oat + Richards). Extremely unfortunately, we lost 7-4. Oh well.. I hope that I'll still know how to play when I come back from break.
March 7, 2005 2JETS
Woke up at 7, quickly printed my 'research', and rushed to the dining hall for breakfast. Much like last year's, the competitive venue was cramped with people. We sat close to the 'wall' again, which kind of brought us bad luck. Both varsity A and B teams got 2nd and 3rd respectively, while jv A and B got no ranking. Oh well.. until next year.
Term paper turned in today. 1.5 days left. Italy, look forward to my arrival!
March 6, 2005 3
I'm finally done with my term paper. Gladly, I did not use much of my day finishing it.. only used about 3 hours I guess. Well, hope that its quality is acceptable.. Besides that, I sporadically did some research on solar measurements for jets tmr. Getting psyched..for the Wendy's trip after the competition.
Joey's releasing her new cd! "喜歡祖兒 3 、Love:Joey:Love 3 (新曲+精選)". Get it in spring break? We'll see.
March 5, 2005 4Varsity Tryouts Day 3
Today's tryout was actually optional, but I guess I'll still call it day 3 anyway. Quite unexpectedly, Jeff Au was "re-invited by Frew" to join us. Hope that it's only for today. For me, I first rallied with Roos, who appeared quite tired and enervated. Then Frew kicked Roos and Clay away from my court and I continued rallying with Bobby Campbell. Well, this guy has obviously improved. Afterwards I partnered with Sammer (good player, just not so consistent) vs Oat + Bobby. We actually won 6-0 in the first set, but got caught up to 2-3 in the second. For once I (kind of) have a winning record against Oat..
The session ended with Frew penalizing each double-fault with 10 crunches, and due to my extremely skillful nature (!), I was the only one who didn't serve a double-fault in my games. It was, honestly, fun and entertaining to see everyone else struggling while I enjoyed my drink.
March 4, 2005 5
Another day without tryouts because of basketball games (NE Tournaments/Playoffs). Boys varsity lost to TP, while the girls won by a point. Oh well, both teams have had a great season already.
Does my site look dull and boring? Perhaps.. But it will blossom with pix when I get out for spring break. Just 4 5 more days.
March 3, 2005 6Varsity Tryouts Day 2 "Don't flinch Eugene, fight back." - Clay
Second day tryouts took place during studyhall (8:15-9:45). Partnered with Pete James vs Eli + Richards. We won 6-0. Well..Pete was the one hitting beautiful winners and drops; not me. Still, we won. Other courts featured Domink + Karney vs Minter + Watson; Wyman + Heckel vs Oat + Sammer; and Clay + Roos vs Tyler + Bobby. Until tmr.
Still quite sick. Better sleep earlier today. Good nite.
March 2, 2005 7
No tryouts today. Sick and tired. Sleep-in tmr. Need to sleep early for recovery. Good nite.
March 1, 2005 8Varsity Tryouts Day 1
To prevent February 28 2005 from turning into a blur in my memory, let me recall something from it now. Well, Frew sent out an email to "Varsity Tennis Hopefuls", and shockingly, there were 21 of us trying out. Besides that, nothing much happened..
So tryouts started today. The magic number was true - and Frew reminded us that he'll be harsh in cutting people. Cut! Cut! Cut! As long as he doesn't cut me. Played on court four with Jeff (!?), Oat and Dominik. Performed quite badly in rallies, which was perhaps why Frew placed me with Tyler vs Clay + Richards. If I recall correctly, we were leading. An hour of intense tryouts ended with Frew's infamous 'torture of the legs'. No court-time tmr. Looking forward to thursday's tryouts.
